chapter 12 (IS:800-2007)

PLEASE ELABORATE ABOUT CHAPTER 12

Is it required to design the total frame for chapter 12 combinations or just while designing of bracing.

FEW BASIC CONCEPT TO BE CHECKED WHILE DESIGNING CHAPTER-12 AS PER IS:800-2007

IS:800-2007, LOAD COMBINATION SHOULD BE AS PER CLAUSE 12.2.3 (PAGE NO. 87)
1.2DL + 0.5ILL + 2.5EL
0.9DL + 2.5EL

CONNECTION MUST BE AS PER CLAUSE 12.4.1 (PAGE NO. 87)
For connection High Strength Friction Grip (HSFG) Bolt must be considered

BRACING AS PER CLAUSE 12.7.2.1 (PAGE NO. 88)
Slenderness of bracing member should not exceed 120 (most probably it will satisfy in tube bracing only).

If we are checking for compressive strength of bracing member then it shall not exceed 0.8times the Design strength in axial compression as per clause 12.7.2.2.

as per clause 12.7.2.4 the provided bracing must not be slender member, it should be either
plastic , compact or semi-compact.

for aircraft hanger buildings as per clause 12.8.2.2 the slenderness limit of the bracing member should not exceed 160.

V-type & K-type bracing shall not permit in chapter-12, only X-Bracing or portal bracing is permitted for earth quake resistance.

COLUMN BASE
as per clause 12.12.1, Fixed column bases and their anchor bolts should be designed to withstand a moment of 1.2times of the full plastic moment capacity of the column section.

the anchor bolt shall be designed to withstand the combined shear and tension check.

don't think that i hav gathered all points from code, ofcourse i gathered from code only bcoz we design the bldg as per code only.
